Now you see it.... now you don't...

July 22, 2009

It was a day that started out ho-hum, quite literally... just another suddenly-gloomy-suddenly-sunshiny day. Nothing much goes on at the office. Not even when the fire alarm goes off, for a false alarm or a supposed fire drill. Come to think of it, we've never really done any fire drills...But I'm digressing.

So, here I was sitting pretty in my cubicle, when, there was this sudden commotion, and people were rushing out! I couldn't get a word of what they're saying, except "men's washroom". Hmm, could it be a pervert? HUWAT! a pervert in the men's bathroom in our heavily securitized building? What the...?

Turns out this would... should... be a day worth remembering in the chronicles of my life. A solar eclipse fully viewable in the men's washroom (that's what it was all about after all!), in my conscious years! But I'm sure I will forget about it... and so, my tribute to this solar-eclipse-watching-in-the-men's-washroom day.

It wasn't a full solar eclipse... but it was amazing to see the moon moving back and forth, at times covering only a quarter of the sun. Then it would move further to cover 3/4 of the sun. It went on for awhile, and though it's visible to the naked eye... watching it through 3D glasses made the eclipse even more distinct. Bloody! And it's kinder to the eyes too.

And then again, it SHOULD be a day worth remembering because it made for a great picture taking session... if only I had my trusty and dependable digicam with me!!! BLAH. And since it's not a full eclipse, it may look like a normal moon in the pictures. Nonetheless...

And though I wouldn't normally post photos of other people here, this event makes an exception... besides, it was my idea to take a picture of it, and I did help in taking it. So technically, I still have a part in it. Hehe...

Enjoy y'all!

Balut's anatomy

Was enjoying a lazy afternoon at home when we heard a cry that I'd say almost everyone who grew up in the Philippines is familiar with.

'BALUUUUUUT'

According to Wikipedia, BALUT is a fertilized duck embryo that is boiled and eaten in the shell. It is commonly sold as streetfood in the Philippines. They are common food in countries in Southeast Asia, such as Laos, Cambodia (pong tia koon ពងទាកូន in Cambodian) and Vietnam (trứng vịt lộn or hột vịt lộn in Vietnamese). They are often served with beer.

And as a tribute to my friends who:
1. have heard of it, but haven't seen it...
2. are curious to see what it looks like...
3. are thinking of trying it but want to see what it looks like

Here you go. Although, these are not for the squeamish. I don't quite get being grossed out with balut. But, it could be because I grew up with it.

However, don't be fooled. It tastes so much better than it looks.

Here you are.

Bon appetit!
